Stonewall Rules

Object

The object of the game is to move all the cards to the foundations.

Layout

  • 1 deck (52 cards), no redeal
  • 1 reserve pile (on left side) containing 16 cards
  • 4 foundation piles (top), initially empty
  • 6 tableau piles (below foundations), each containing 6 card. The first card of each tableau pile is faced down, the second card is faced up, the third card is faced down and so on. The tableau is also called Stonewall.

Rules

Foundations: Build up in suit, from Ace to King. The top card of a foundation pile can be moved back to the tableau.

Tableau: Build down in alternating colors. The top card of each tableau pile can be moved to the foundations or to another tableau pile. Packed sequence (cards that are sorted down in alternating colors) may be moved to another tableau pile. An empty pile can be filled with any available card or packed sequence.

Reserve: Each card from the reserve can be played to the foundations or to the tableau.
